Why I’m Running the Amazing Northampton Half Marathon
In February, my beautiful, caring, and kind mum went into hospital for what was meant to be a routine knee operation. During her stay, she became unwell with tachycardia. After undergoing a series of tests, she was discharged home. But just over a week later, things took a turn. My dad had to call an ambulance as Mum’s condition worsened. She was readmitted to hospital and, after further investigations, we discovered she had an internal bleed from the bowel.
Her hospital stay extended as doctors worked to understand the full picture — reviewing the results from the earlier operation and running new tests. Then, in March, we received the devastating news: our beautiful mum, wife, and grandmother had been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer.
This journey has been incredibly difficult for our family. Through it all, we’ve witnessed the dedication, compassion, and professionalism of the NHS staff, and in particular the support from Northamptonshire Health Charity. It’s because of them that I’m lacing up my running shoes.
I’m taking on the Amazing Northampton Half Marathon to raise funds for this incredible charity — to give back to those who have given so much to us in our darkest moments. Every step I take is for my mum, and every pound raised will help support more families facing their own battles.
If you’re able to donate, share, or even just send a kind word — thank you. It means the world.
Thanks for supporting my fundraising!
