Triathlons

The world of triathlon has come a long way since it was created back in the 70's. Starting off as a simple 10km run, 8km cycle and a 500m swim, triathletes are now setting themselves much more ambitious targets with the likes of the most common triathlon distance, the Olympic, consisting of a 1.5km swim, a 40km cycle, finishing off with a 10km run. It is a great sport to keep active, and with the varied discliplines of swimming, cycling and running you can keep training fun too! Triathletes compete for fastest overall course completion, which includes timed transitions between the three races. An Ironman Triathlon, possibly the most famous race, is a 3.9km swim, a 180km ride and a 42.2km run. There is also a Half Ironman distance or even the "sprint," or mini-triathlons, which are still tough races, requiring a 0.8km swim, 24km ride and 5km run.

The word Triathlon actually comes from the greek words treis (three) and athlos (competition). Ready to set yourself a challenging target? You're in the right place!
