The Taunton Flyer - May 1st 2022
About the event
The Taunton Flyer will be taking place from Smeatharpe Airfield near Honiton. The event supports SSAFA, the Armed Forces Charity and is themed around the wartime airfields of East Devon and Somerset, with routes that pass RAF Exeter (Exeter Airport), RAF Dunkeswell, RAF Upottery (Smeatharpe) RAF Culmhead, RAF Merryfield, and RAF Westonzoyland
Taunton Flyer offers you a choice of three routes, the Spitfire (37 miles), the Dakota (63 miles) or the Wellington (101 miles). All routes are fully signed and supported with quality feed station, outriders, mechanics and medics. The Sportive includes electronic chip timing providing you with an official completion time, plus a finishers medal.

Our mission is to deliver excellent endurance sports events to a wide range of ages & abilities. Our events include triathlons & duathlons, open water swimming, gravel and road cycling sportives & road & trail running races.
We work #CENSOR# delivering excellent events. And that is a challenge as no venue is perfect and dealing with landowners, traffic, councils, the general public & other stakeholders can be tough.
In October 2020 we moved some running races, previously co-organised as part of the Wild Night Run Series, under the Sportiva umbrella. And in August 2021 we acquired some cycling sportives, previously run by Just Event. Like all event organisers we’ve had a tough couple of years with the pandemic but are hoping for a return to near-normality in 2022.
We couldn’t deliver these events without a great team of people including Helen Simcoe Walker, Nigel Evans, Dawn Lamerton, Rachel Harvey & Tim Mockford.
