We’ve all heard of it and most of us know where it is. But very few of us have run over it and nobody has ever raced on it. Until now..
This is what makes the Lundy Race the most unique Trail running experience we have created so far. Fourteen miles of pristine, wildlife encrusted tracks tended by the Landmark Trust are open for us to run, walk and crawl. Whichever way you do it, you will visit the North lighthouse traversing the undulating eastern and western clifftops, cling to the precipitous slopes and run along the central spine of the island (as well as a few sidetracks). You will definitely discover this beautiful and rugged island in all its glorious entirety, on foot and at your own pace.
We’ve chartered the MS Oldenburg to get you to the island ship-shape relaxed and ready to go. The boat will take 250 runners. So when it is full, so is the race.
When is it ?
Sunday 10th July 2022. The Raceboat is now FULL.
The Lundy ‘Raceboat’ will leave Ilfracombe harbour at 9am to arrive at 11am.
The time for leaving Lundy Island is 6:00pm and anticipated arrival 8:00pm back at Ilfracombe harbour. Race start time approximately 12:15pm.
*Times may vary from that published here.
Please note that the Boat is solely for runners entered in The Lundy Island Race and has a maximum of 250 runners.
The only other way to directly enter the race is to make your own way to and from the island on the scheduled service and book the NON-Raceboat option.
This will mean staying for a mini-break on the island in a campsite or renting one of 20+ cottages on the island or arranging a separate boat to the island on the day.
LUNDY ISLAND RACE – RACEBOAT ENTRIES

Should the ferry be cancelled for reasons outside our control we will refund 40% of the entry fee by way of a goodwill gesture.

On the Island
Upon arrival, you will walk uphill to race HQ in the village (approx. 15 minutes) to register and collect race number and Lundy Island Race t-shirt. Registration will be on the village green near the Marisco Tavern. This is also the start and finish of the race.
After the race you will have time to visit the myriad of historic monuments (if you’ve got anything left in your legs?), go down to a beach for a swim or just chill out in the village and have a drink and food at the Marisco Tavern or browse in the Island shop.
Each entrant will receive a Day Return Trip to the island aboard the MS Oldenburg, an event t-shirt and every finisher will receive the much coveted Lundy Island Race medal.
The race will be fully marked and marshalled with first aid on course and at race HQ. Fully stocked Aid Stations at both ends of the island, including the North Lighthouse.
Distance was 13.5 miles for 2019 and a similar distance is planned for 2021.

pureTRAIL running events have been created by two experienced, passionate, South Devon based Trail and Ultra Distance runners, located on the southern fringes of Dartmoor. We believe that roads are for cars, not runners, so we keep road use to an absolute minimum in our attempt to create the ultimate Trail running experience. We believe that the events should be for runners, not organisers, so we spend our time meticulously planning the routes, and organising simple, pleasurable races over Southern Britain’s last wild place, Dartmoor.
We aim to bring experienced and novice Trail runners into the natural Dartmoor environment by offering Trail races varying in distances of between 10 and 100 miles. From the short, sharp, explosive ‘Volcano Race’ of 10 ‘Moorish’ miles with nearly 1800ft of climb, to the Ultra Trail of Dartmoor.. the Dartmoor 100′, a circumnavigation of Dartmoor. The Ultimate test of endurance in Southern England.
The Idea
Simplicity is our concept. To get runners off the road and onto the Trails. To explore, to experience, to empower and to have fun with running through nature.
To begin our journey, every Wednesday evening we guide runners of all abilities around the Tracks and Trails of Southern Dartmoor and surrounding areas. We have created the PureTrail Running Group. Our first run was from Haytor in April 2015 and people arrived from almost 30 miles away. We are now attracting a growing number of runners each with between 10 and 27 in recent weeks. Everyone is welcome, the guided runs are free of charge. Just bring enthusiasm, a sense of adventure and your trail shoes. Since we started Wednesday night runs we have only missed a handful of evenings in 4 years. It’s now time to ditch the head torches again as the nights get lighter…….hooray! See Wednesday Night Runs section on the Menu bar for our weekly location.
The Logic
Roads are for cars. Too hard, too unforgiving and too repetitive…
