Join Running Adventures and London City Runners for a weekend of trail running on the stunning island of Madeira.
For this trail weekend, we will be staying at the lovely Dorisol Mimosa Hotel in Funchal. The hotel 'enjoys a privileged space located in the centre of the tourist area 5 minutes from the sea; with outdoor swimming pools, indoor pool, SPA, jacuzzi, gym, games room, disco, restaurants and bars.
Our weekend will begin with a 10km run around the small city of Funchal, with maybe a cheeky beer stop towards the end if we fancy.
Day 2 will see things getting a bit more serious as we hit the trails to the east of the island, from Machico. We'll explore the cliff path to Caniçal before climbing Pico das Roçadas, which will give us incredible views across the island. This 11 mile run will include some epic cliff paths and some tasty elevation.
Day 3 will see us taking a transfer to Alagoa beach in Porto da Cruz, the start and finish point of our 13 mile adventure. This run will include a significant mountain climb up the Royal Path 23, towards Portella. Before descending and exploring the Larano Trails on the coastal path, back towards Porto da Cruz and a well earned ice cream.
The elevation on days 2 and 3 will be significant and we will be fast hiking some sections, the views and downhills will make our efforts well worthwhile.
This weekend will combine epic trail running with time spent enjoying the company of fellow runners from London City Runners.
Please be advised: This weekend is for London City Runners members ONLY.
