Helvellyn is a mountain in the English Lake District, the highest point of the Helvellyn range, a north–south line of mountains to the north of Ambleside, between the lakes of Thirlmere and Ullswater.
We will start from Swirls Car Park and head up along the Helvellyn Gill pathway passing through Browncove Crags, this route is also part of the Wainwrights to reach Helvellyn Lower Man and then to summit Helvellyn. Helvellyn stands at 950m from sea level and we will take on 744 metres elevation (2,444ft)
When we reach Helvellyn you will see both edges; Swirral and striding Edge, you can also see the valley of Gelnridding and Ullswater on a clear day. We will then continue to Nethermost Pike, High Crag, Dollywaggon Pike and then descending back down from Grisdale Tarn.
This route has been designed to show you some of the best of Helvellyn and the summits of the famous Wainwrights.
ROUTE
We will cover 15km with 954 metres of total elevation (9miles/ 3,129ft), our highest point will be Helvellyn and the terrain will be mainly mountain paths with some grassy fells.
PACE
We'll be aiming for a sociable pace for all. We will run as a group leaving no one behind, experience of hills/mountains is beneficial. As we are climbing mountain hills we will ensure everyone walks as much of the hills as possible and to stay together as a group, but we will wait for all at the top of the hills and carry on together.
Allow 5 hours for the run itself, as conditions and group ability may vary.
KIT
Please make sure you have the right kit for this run; trail running shoes, spare layers, gloves and waterproofs. We make this mandatory as the weather can change quickly when you are higher up on the fells. If you need any help with this please do not hesitate to contact us via the website.
Please bring a minimum of 1L water; snacks (always) recommended, and always plan for the time out rather than the distance.
*We will provide hand sanitiser before and after the run. Please also bring your own hand sanitiser, as part of our requirement to run, as there may be several gates on route*.
