About the event

The Kentmere Horseshoe is a classic circular route in the Lake District that boasts 9 Wainwright summits, sometimes called the Kentmere Round, it is one of the longest and most remote walks in the Lake District. Traversing all the fells bounding the upper Kentmere valley and its reservoir.

We will start from St Cuthburts Church which leads us up the climb to Garburn Pass which then takes us over Yoke, Ill Bell, Froswick, Thornwaite Crag, High Street, Mardal Ill Bell, Harter Fell, Kentmere Pike then continuing to Shipman Knotts.

After the run we can head in Staveley for food and drinks and admire the views from the day out.

ROUTE

We will cover 20.7km with 1085metres of total elevation (12.8miles/ 3,559ft), our highest point will be Kentmere Pike and the terrain will be a variation of hard compact mountain trails, rocky terrain and grassy bogs.

PACE

We'll be aiming for a sociable pace for all. We will run as a group leaving no one behind, experience of hills/mountains is beneficial. As we are climbing mountain hills we will ensure everyone walks as much of the hills as possible and to stay together as a group, but we will wait for all at the top of the hills and carry on together.

Allow 5 hours for the run itself, as conditions and group ability may vary.

KIT

Please make sure you have the right kit for this run; trail running shoes, spare layers, gloves and waterproofs (we will e-mail you with a mandatory kit list prior to the event). We make this mandatory as the weather can change quickly when you are higher up in the mountains. If you need any help with this please do not hesitate to contact us via the website.

Please bring a minimum of 1L water; snacks (always) recommended, and always plan for the time out rather than the distance.

*We will provide hand sanitiser before and after the run. Please also bring your own hand sanitiser, as part of our requirement to run, as there may be several gates on route*.
