About the event

The Fairfield Horseshoe is a classic circular route in the Lake District, which is one of Wainwright’s favourite ridge walks, the round was described by him as “a great horseshoe of grassy slopes below a consistently high skyline.

We will start from Rydal Road Car Park which leads us up past Rydal Hall and up to many summits including: Nab Scar, Heron Pike, Rydal Fell, Great Rigg and then to summit Fairfield which sits at 873 metres elevation, we will then follow the route round to summit Hart Crag, Dove Crag, High Pike, Low Pike before arriving back in Rydal.

When we reach Fairfield (on a good day) you will see views of Dollywaggon Pike, Patterdale common and Ullswater which are close by but not to mention the skyline of the Lake District mountains that surround the horseshoe.

This route has been designed to show you  the best of a classic circular route along with the Coast to Coast walk route.

ROUTE

We will cover 16.4km with 1080metres of total elevation (10.2miles/ 3,543ft), our highest point will be Fairfield ad the terrain will be a variation of hard compact mountain trails, rocky terrain and grassy bogs.

PACE

We'll be aiming for a sociable pace for all. We will run as a group leaving no one behind, experience of hills/mountains is beneficial. As we are climbing mountain hills we will ensure everyone walks as much of the hills as possible and to stay together as a group, but we will wait for all at the top of the hills and carry on together.

Allow 5 hours for the run itself, as conditions and group ability may vary.

KIT

Please make sure you have the right kit for this run; trail running shoes, spare layers, gloves and waterproofs (we will e-mail you with a mandatory kit list prior to the event). We make this mandatory as the weather can change quickly when you are higher up in the mountains. If you need any help with this please do not hesitate to contact us via the website.

Please bring a minimum of 1L water; snacks (always) recommended, and always plan for the time out rather than the distance.

*We will provide hand sanitiser before and after the run. Please also bring your own hand sanitiser, as part of our requirement to run, as there may be several gates on route*.
