OLD SCHOOL vs NEW SCHOOL NAVIGATION RACES - Haldon Forest March 3, 2018

“Choose your tool: Map and Compass or GPS”

IT’S TRAIL RUNNING, BUT NOT AS WE KNOW IT.

Think OMM Lite mixed with a bit of orienteering. We hope it will appeal to both types of competitor. We are also offering great prizes!

Wild Nav Race Series will have a 3 hour time limit long course and 2 hour time limit short course with up to 30 checkpoints spread out around the trails and paths near the event HQ.

Teams of two or three will have to find as many checkpoints as they can in the allotted time using our bespoke maps. The team that collects the most points are the winners. For this first event, we will be using an odds and evens format. You can choose to follow either odd or even numbers in sequence. You are allowed to transfer over once. If you transfer from odds to evens for example, you can only transfer back again once.

Haldon Forest is one of the most popular areas for mountain biking and trail running in Devon. Checkpoints will be spread over the main arteries, smaller paths, as well as off-piste in beautiful, forested locations.

Some people may want to focus on running hard and collecting all the checkpoints, if you think you are up to the challenge, while others will prefer to choose a more sociable approach and compete against family members! Either way we are sure that you will enjoy your day.

Electronic dibbers will be provided as well as maps.

Wild Running Events has teamed up with top British and World Orienteering age grouper and BOK member Gavin Clegg to stage these events.

  • Route: You decide! What paths and trails to take is up to you. Or you might want to go straight across the forest.
  • Distance: You choose! Clear the course within 3 hours or get 1 checkpoint and head to the café!
  • Terrain: Trails, Paths, Bridleways and forest in Devon, Dartmoor and the south west.
  • Skills required: Teamwork, route selection….intelligence, map reading, concentration.
  • Refreshments: Available at The Ridge Café in Haldon Forest
