This workshop will be led by experienced outdoor and adventure photographer James Carnegie and Salomon sponsored trail runner and coach Matt Buck.
We are delighted to announce that we will be joined by Runners World deputy editor Rick Pearson.
A full day workshop open to a maximum of ten photographers, based in the heart of the stunning Surrey AONB and taking in the fundamentals of running photography. Commencing with a classroom workshop, you’ll be briefed by the UK’s leading running magazine staff and then sent out to shoot with our runners. On your return we’ll process the images, submit them for review and have the opportunity to receive feedback as a group from Rick, James and Matt.
This is designed to authentically replicate the processes and pressures of a real, commissioned editorial photoshoot.
You will be tutored in camera craft with the focus being mastering running technique, choosing the right location and directing running models. The workshop will enhance your technique, sense of composition, understanding of light, and lead toward developing your unique and individual style. Feedback will be given on a one-to-one basis throughout the day.
The Spring 19 workshop will meet at a private location in the heart of the Surrey Hills, relatively close to Dorking mainline station. After an initial welcome meeting with Matt and James you will spend part of the morning in a relaxed classroom environment and part outside, before being briefed on your assignment from our industry professional. Following lunch we will be transported to the central location, from where you will be sent out with running models to fulfil the brief. All transport (where needed) to and from the location will be provided.
Who should attend
This workshop is ideally suited to content creators, serious about producing work which meets the demands of industry editorial and brand. The emphasis is on shooting to a level which meets the scrutiny of our resident Runners World professional - the highest standard. Additionally, technique, camera-craft and post-production are fundamental to the making of high quality photographs, and this philosophy will be taught through the course of the day.
Many of the photo locations do involve some short walks over rough terrain. A great deal of understanding running/trail photography (and directing runners from behind the camera) comes from being able to run it yourself, keep up with models where needed and run between locations. As such, a good level of fitness is recommended if you want to make the most of this workshop.
