Yar Tor fell race

Alf Tupper rarely ventures south but he's reluctantly agreed to come and do our Yar Tor fell race. We took him round the course, which he described as "proper posh'.

"No mountains and you all queue at the styles like you're in a supermarket... and everyone's wearing that lycra stuff." He's hard to please Alf!

But we told him it comes with chips (NFC chip timing) and he was in. And there are climbs, enough to put an imaginary sack of spuds on your back and an honesty bar at the end.

If its posh, we've got it:

• *** star cublcles
• organic pies (ask Clive's if you don't believe us)
• an honesty bar (what are we thinking of?)
• all set on a farm (Huccaby farm near Dartmeet) with a cleaned out farm shed and tors that sound like yuppie slang.

We asked Alf if he'd be our ambassador...

And he told us: "Sling it. Aw don't go round mixing' wi any pigs n cows n that. Aw've got pride. Give us a sutherna ta beat n am in tho."

Keep those knees clean and sign up for a proper posh fell race...

On the southern side of Dartmoor. It only costs £7 (we have to charge more than the north, we're south side and we have to keep the landowner's sweet).

Get round our 5 mile mile course (just shy of) and be back in time for tea, or is it supper? Urchins start at 6pm. That's Under 9s and Under 11s, as well as under 13s and under 15s.

Parking?

Yep we even have that. And if you like it, you can pitch a tent and stick around for the festival: the Something Wild Festival.

This race is qualifying event in a series of 10 fell races on Dartmoor - the 'Dartmoor Fell Series'

These are being held from June through to September. (simple scoring league, looking for best 7 races out of 10) all on fabulous routes.

• Spot prizes will be available and maybe a pie?
• Awards for normal age groups, plus a prize for the first club team (4 male and 4 female finishers)
• Presentations will be at 9pm in the cowshed.

You must be 16 or older on 30th July 2021 to enter this event.

• Juniors cost just £1 to enter.
  
• Registration is open until 6.59pm.
