The most important and distinguishing feature about XTERRA: Conquer the Crater is that 100% of all proceeds raised by the event support the Northern Cancer Foundation's Miles Against Cancer Fund, dedicated to improving the survival rate and quality of life of children and their families impacted by pediatric cancer in Northeastern Ontario. To date, over $175,000 has been raised to support children and their families live with and beyond children's cancer!
XTERRA: Conquer the Crater is proud to be back for its fourth consecutive year. The event's inaugural race in 2019 was filled with excitement, drawing a field of almost 350 athletes across all of the weekend's events; not including the 100's of volunteers, spectators, vendors, and entertainment staff that operated and performed at the festival's beer garden and music celebration. 2020 was filled with hope, but as we have globally witnessed, COVID-19 changed the way we navigate the world around us and the team at XTERRA: Conquer the Crater developed what we hoped would be a one-off unique virtual challenge. XTERRA off-road racing was back live in person in 2021, with a field of over a 150 athletes converging on Kivi Park to Conquer the Crater in a modified/hybrid distance off-road triathlon, XTERRA 21K Trail Run, 5K & 10K trail races.
We demonstrated that we were able to offer a world-class athletic event while keeping our athletes safe. For 2022 we are back, stronger and safer than ever, armed with a year's worth of the international sporting world's best practices, a team of technical race experts, public health officials, and emergency medicine physicians to ensure that athletes, volunteers, and support staff can once again, return to racing.
We have brought back a number of previous race options, including a full-distance off-road duathlon, a team category, and a short-distance off-road triathlon. XTERRA: Conquer the Crater has set itself apart on the XTERRA World Tour, offering a challenging, technical, but beautiful course completely contained within Kivi Park’s boundaries. The course will take athletes across iconic vistas of the Canadian Shield, showcasing the region’s famous rock, pine forests, and lakes. It will challenge athletes of all skill levels navigating the trail, rocks, roots, trees, and wildlife.
