10km closed road race around historic Winchester
The Winchester 10km Road Race started back in 1983 as a 10-mile distance. The race adopted the popular 10km format in the late 1980's.
The race will feature a 1 lap closed road route starting outside the historic Winchester Guildhall in The Broadway. This year features a revised start with the race leaving the Broadway via the exit next to King Alfred's statue. The route heads up St George's Street before going out towards the village of Kingsworthy. The return leg passes through the village of Headbourne Worthy and back towards Winchester before finishing at The North Walls Recreation Centre. The route is a mix of urban and countryside parkland.
Start time: 0830am
The entry fee includes chip timing, photography, finisher medal and t-shirt.
This event will also be supporting Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance. HIOWAA is an independent Charity that brings an advanced Critical Care Team to the most seriously ill and injured patients in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, giving them the best chance of survival and recovery, when the worst happens. It currently costs £15,000 a day to maintain their life saving service. You can find out more information on what they do HERE

FAQ
There are always questions that you might have, the common ones are answered below.
Can I wear headphones??
In ear or over ear headphones are not permitted under UKA rules and if a runner is seen wearing this type of head phones they will be disqualified :-( However, headphones that don't block your ears, such as Aftershokz, are permitted
What time does the run start?
The run will start at 08.30am so please make sure you are ready and on the start line in plenty of time.
Yikes! Why so early?
When the race first started in 1983 the start time was 2pm. This was the same for our neighbours at Eastleigh 10km. Back then you could hear a pin drop in the High St. Fast forward to 2022 and Sunday is possibly the busiest day of the week in the High St. We are incredibly lucky that Winchester City Council have allowed the event to grow to one of the largest 10km runs in Hampshire. With extra runners comes extra responsibility. Winchester has a rather unique road system which does not work well with road closures. To keep disruption to local residents and business owners to a minimum, an earlier start ensures we keep most people happy. With less traffic on the road at 08:30am it makes it a safer event for all concerned.
Where is the race start?
Winchester Guildhall, 168 High St, Winchester, Hampshire SO23 9BA
How do I get there?
Recommended car park is St Peter's, Gordon Road, SO23 7DD which is roughly 800 metres from the start and 800 metres from the finish.
How much is parking?
Please check Winchester Council carparking website
How to I collect my race bib number?
If you entered before 21st January you will receive your race pack in the post. If you enter after this date you can collect it Alexandra Sports in Winchester from 18th Feb 2022 or on race morning from North Walls Playing Fields (What3words ///swoop.hobble.overpower).
Do I need to register in the morning?
No, providing you have received your number in the post
Can I run with my dog?
Sorry no dogs allowed at this event, the only acceptation is disability dogs (such as guide dogs are permitted)
Can I run with a buggy?
We are a pro buggy event company however unfortunately we feel Winchester 10km is not suitable for buggies. Although the race is on closed roads, some of these roads have parked cars and the size of the field could mean that a buggy may obstruct another runner causing potential injury to the runner or the little chap that happens to be in the buggy. Our race is covered by UK Athletics. At present the UKA don't have a detailed buggy policy. We do have a buggy friendly event at Thruxton Race Circuit Run.
Are there toilets at the race start?
Yes, the council will open up the public conveniences earlier in the park next to The Broadway and also 100 metres further up the High St opposite Marks and Spencers.
What is the minimum age to enter the event?
The minimum age is 16 years (age on the day of competition)
Is there a bag drop?
Yes there is a bag drop at the start. There is a £2 charge which 100% of the proceeds go to a local charity running the bag drop. Please ensure you have cash ready
