About the event

Join Running Adventures for a multi day ultra running challenge along the wonderful West Highland Way in Scotland.

Our 'Wild Journeys' are a bit different to our usual trail trips (where we base ourselves in one place). They are adventurous challenges, along iconic trails, staying in different places each night, working together as a team to complete an epic journey. It will be a small group, meaning very limited spaces.

On day 1 (approx 34 miles | 54 km), we will meet in Milngavie early on the first day, to begin our epic multi day ultra running journey along this iconic trail. After loading our overnight bags into the van (included in price) we will set off towards Drymen, the start is easy going, offering a nice start to our trip. We will pass some small lochs and rivers before climbing Conic Hill, offering stunning views of Loch Lomand and our first taste of what the West Highland Way is all about. We'll follow the loch banks along some challenging paths to the spectacular waterfall at Inversnaid, our first stop for the night in the Inversnaid Bunkhouse.

Day 2 will see us running from Inversnaid to Bridge of Orchy (approx 26 miles | 42 km), this is the shortest day of the trip and a chance to really absorb everything the West Highland Way has to offer. We will mover away from Loch Lomand, into a different landscape of glens, waterfalls and towering mountains. We will traverse the steep slopes of Beinn Odhar, Beinn Dorain will be a constant sight throughout this day, as we head to Bridge of Orchy for our next night of rest, in the West Highland Way Sleeper.

Our final day will be a big one (approx 36 miles | 58 km), as we work our way to Fort William and our finish line. We will travel across a vast and wild section of the trip, a true area of wilderness. We will eventually reach Buachaille Etive Mor, one of the most famous sights in the Highlands which featured in the James Bond movie, 'Skyfall'. We will also pass the historic Glen Coe; the scene of the massacre of Clan MacDonald in 1692. We will then take on the Devil’s Staircase. taking us up to the highest point of the West Highland Way at 550m, with breathtaking views back to ‘The Buachaille’ and northwards towards the Mamores mountain range. After this we have a relatively easy going run through forests, with views of Ben Nevis, all the way to our finish in Fort William, where we will be staying in an old prison!

You will be joined on the whole journey by your host, Matt Buck, we will take on this challenge as a team and support each other the whole way, this is not a race but it will be a big challenge, which we will undertake together.
