About the events

Starting and finishing in Thursley, this run will take us around two beautiful areas of heathland. We will begin by visiting the boardwalks of Thursley Common, a national nature reserve. This area is one of the last remaining heathlands in Surrey, we will have to watch our step though, as it is the ideal location for spotting both viviparous and common lizards. It is also well known for attracting a variety of rare birds.

We will then visit Hankley Common, home to more wildlife, but also boasts some other interesting features. We will visit the Atlantic Wall, In 1943, in an area of the Common known as the Lion's Mouth, Canadian troops constructed a replica of a section of the Atlantic Wall. It is constructed from reinforced concrete and was used as a major training aid to develop and practise techniques to breach the defences of the French coast prior to the D-Day landings.

This area is also famous for being used in multiple movies and TV shows, including numerous James Bond movies and most recently, the new Avengers movie.

We will enjoy amazing trails and views the whole way round. There is also a lovely pub by the car park, where we can grab a well earned pint after our run.

This run is perfect for people new to trail running, runners who simply like to run with like minded people, or those that haven't felt comfortable running trails alone at dusk.

You will be guided by myself, an experienced ultra runner, running coach and Salomon athlete. You don't need to worry about where you are going or the route we will take, I will take care of everything so all you need to do is concentrate on running and having fun.

Pace: This is not a race! We will run as a group and share this experience together. You should be able to run between 10-11 min/miles (6-7 min/km) and have a good level of fitness. First timers encouraged!

Kit: A full kit list will be provided but you will need a head torch and spare batteries. I have Salomon Sense Ride 2 and Speedcross 5 trail shoes available to test, please state your size during registration if interested.

Torches: Running Adventures are proud to partner with Ledlenser and have the latest Ledlenser torches for you to trial on the run.

Getting there: Thursley Common is easily accessed by car, just off the A3. Full details will be provided.
