About the event

Following the tried, tested and loved recipe for our other “in a day” series of events” (The Gritstone Grind in Cheshire and The Millennium Way in Staffordshire) we present: The Winter Wychavon Way (WWW) on January 27th 2018

First organised by Beyond Marathon in 2015 (ran in the opposite direction), The Wychavon Way runs (the guidebook says walk… it must be some kind of a misprint?) 40 miles, the length of Worcestershire.

The event is reasonably  flat, with just one really significant hill. The section between Checkpoint 1 and Checkpoint 2 has some rolling hills, but just little ones! This is a low cost but high value event £29 (no transport) or £34 (includes coach travel). The cost of this special Winter event includes rental of a GPS event tracker from RaceDrone,  (usually £15) so all your supporters can follow your progress on the course! Also included is electronic chip timing, food and drink at CPs, snacks at the finish, and a finishers certificate emailed to you afterwards.

We are keeping the focus on a quality ultramarathon event at a great value price. You will park your car at the picture postcard village of Broadway in the Cotswolds, and board our coaches, which will take you to Droitwich Spa. Then you just have to run back to your car! The Wychavon Way was created in 1977 for the Queens Silver Jubilee.  In 2012, in a joint partnership between Wychavon and Worcestershire county councils, £25,000 was spent re-waymarking and re-launching the national trail.

The route has been changed to remain entirely within Worcestershire. The councils hoped to attract more than £250k in benefits to the local economy by users of the footpath over the next 10 years. By organising this event, we are hoping to help them realise that as well as introduce you to a new area for our events. Registration is in the village of Broadway, which is a lovely town referred to as ‘the Jewel of the Cotswolds’.

The coach departs for Droitwich Spa, where you journey begins to Flyford Flavell, then onto Church Lench, Wyre Piddle, Pershire, before the only significant hill on the course, ascending Bredon Hill and gives great views over the Vale of Evesham, before heading East, descending the hill and back to Broadway     There is a generous 12 hour limit for this event.  That should be well within your reach but this isn’t as flat as The Millennium Way remember, so you are not going to be able to walk it all!
