FAQ's

Is the course marked?

No, but there are lots of footpath signs and we provide a map and lots of help to keep you on track. You can also rent a tracker from Geo Tracks.

What’s the course like?

The course is a mix of trails, paths, roads and canal to path and the terrain constantly changes.

Is there a mandatory kit list?

Yes, please see the event description.

How many checkpoints are there?

There are 6 checkpoints with water and snacks.

Do you cater for Vegans at checkpoints?

Yes we try to provide vegan snacks where possible – non vegans don’t know the difference!

Are the road crossings marshalled?

No, you will need to cross a number of roads with care during the event.

Where can I park?

There is parking available at the Country Park for the duration of the event.

Can I have support during the race?

Yes you can have your own crew – the golden rule is only do what would be possible for everyone else to do if they had a crew! Please make sure that your supporters do not get in the way of the race and other competitors.

About the event

A picturesque, circular route around Northamptonshire with support from the local running community- 2021 sees the second edition (having had to postpone the 2020 edition) of this race taking in the beauty of Northamptonshire's villages, forests, canals and country parks

The Rose of the Shires Ultra is back - who knows what 2021 will bring in terms of the checkpoints and the competition between local running clubs for the best check point trophy. 2019 saw Redwell Runners scoop the award (helped mainly by their pantomime horse!)We are excited to give you another opportunity to enjoy this race in a fantastic central location, with a single loop making for easy planning and logistics. The route takes in the beautiful Northamptonshire countryside with two country parks, Salcey Forest, the Grand Union Canal and 21 pretty villages and towns following parts of the Nene Way, the Midshires Way and the Northampton Round. There are 6 checkpoints at 6 to 8 mile intervals.

KIT

Trail shoes are advised. There are sections of trail which can become very muddy in wet conditions. It is essential to carry the items below. There will be random kit checks prior to the race . Runners must carry the following mandatory equipment at all times. 


Fully Charged Mobile Phone including the numbers for the Race Director and Assistant Race Director (shown on your map book given at registration)

Water Bottles/Bladder capable of carrying a minimum of 1 litre.

Survival Blanket: 1.4m x 2m minimum

Waterproof Jacket 

Whistle

Headtorch or Body Torch

Spare batteries

Hat and Gloves 

Long sleeved base layer or fleece top
