THE 2.5KM SWIM STARTS AT 9AM FOLLOWED BY THE 5KM EVENT AT 11.30AM.
The popular Outlaw open water swim events take place in the Regatta Lake at the National Water Sports Centre. The routes are easy to navigate and are suitable for swimmers of all levels from those looking to complete the distance as a personal challenge to those aiming to win their age group.
The swims start at the boat house end of the lake and you will follow the inflatable buoys up the left hand side of the lake before making a right turn to do a full width and then turning right again to head back towards the grandstand seating area. Those doing 2.5km will do one lap, and those doing 5km will do two with a short land exit to grab a drink before re-entering the lake. Your finish will be near the grandstand area where you will exit the water and your time will be recorded electronically as you pass under the finishing gantry.
You can choose what swimwear you wear. Most opt for a wetsuit, but your regular swimwear is fine too if you are comfortable wearing it in open water. We can’t predict the water or air temperature but keep an eye on the forecasts in advance – the water is usually around 22 degrees.
All swim strokes are allowed, but we ask that you avoid backstroke as this will alert our water safety team that you need assistance.
The minimum age to take part is 12 by 31.12.22 for the 2.5km and 13 for the 5km.
