Lough Cutra Castle - Sun 30th May 2021

Arguably the finest castle in the series – Lough Cutra – provides a fitting backdrop for the curtain raiser of the Castle Run Series. This first race sets the scene for a competitive and fun series, hosted within the beautiful grounds and surrounding area of stunning South Galway. What’s more, the race coincides with a Bank Holiday in the UK and it is also the first weekend of the UK school half term, making it an ideal break for sporty families.

The Lough Cutra Castle 10K takes in the same stunning 7K loop as the Half Marathon and then continues around for exactly the same first part of the second loop until the Deer Park is crossed for a second time. At this point and having emerged from the Deer Park participants turn left and join the start of Black Drive which in turn rejoins the original 7K route at the 5.5K mark. 10K is achieved when the Finish Line is crossed in front of the Castle itself.

The Half Marathon and Marathon will see competitors undertake laps of the spectator friendly 7K estate loop. The first 3K of the circuit heads north from the castle lawns hand railing the western shore of the luminescent Lough Cutra Lake (largest privately owned lake in Europe).
