About the event

Join Running Adventures for an unforgettable weekend of trail running and hiking in El Chorro, one hour north of Malaga in Spain. El Chorro is hugely popular amongst trail runners, hikers, climbers and mountain bikers, all attracted by its dramatic landscapes and incredible trails. We will stay in the wonderful La Garganta, which has a swimming pool, restaurant and stunning views across the lakes and gorges.

This running weekend will combine epic mountain trail running with time spent enjoying the company of like minded people and relaxing in beautiful surroundings.

Our runs will take us all over this spectacular area.

After checking into our hotel on Thursday, we'll start with a short run to shake the travelling out of our legs and get to know each other. It will also give us a chance to familiaise ourselves with this fascinating place we will be calling home for the next few days. We will end this run with some time to enjoy a beer or cocktail by the pool.

Friday will see us make an early start for an 8 mile run (with approx 2100ft of elevation) from our hotel to the entrance to the famous Caminito del Rey, where we will enter the national park (entrance included with this trip) for a 5 mile hike (running prohibited in the park sadly) along The Kings Path, a walkway, pinned to the walls of a narrow gorge, an experience to remember forever.

On Saturday we have an 11 mile (4100ft elevation) mountain adventure up the Arabic Staircase and onto the Sierra de Huma, the areas highest peak at 1191m. We will spend some time enjoying the trails on and around the mountain, some sections will be slightly technical but we will take it slowly and support each other the whole way, whilst enjoying incredible views in every direction. We'll also keep an eye out for Spanish Ibex, and Vultures circling above.

All runs are guided by me, a Salomon sponsored ultra runner and coach. We will run at a social pace and walk the hills and mountain slopes if we have to. This is not a race! We will stay as a group so if you are a faster runner, please expect to run slower than you would normally.

Previous trail running experience is not 100% necessary, but is preferable. The terrain will vary hugely, from small road sections to wide trails, narrow trails and some very technical, rocky, trails. We will hike some sections and run some sections. Don't worry, we will be on hand to coach you and show you the techniques needed to run on such terrain. You will need a good level of fitness to enjoy this weekend. If you are unsure, please contact me to discuss.
