Dartmoor Traverse/Race With No Name
Surface: Mixed
Difficulty: Tough
Ascent: 4,000 feet
This is a self-nav Dartmoor Traverse with a difference. This is a challenge event or a race but we'll be encouraging walkers to take part this year too.
The Dartmoor Traverse/Race With No Name follows the Two Moors Way route (western route).
Pairs
This year, we have created a pairs category. Pairs must run together and prizes will be awarded to the first three pair teams to finish, men and women, as well as mixed. Pairs tickets are discounted as only one GPS tracker is needed per team. In the event of one runner retiring, the other is permitted to carry on and will be given a finishing time but can not qualify for the solo category.
Solos
This is the same as for previous years but we will include running guides to run alongside runners.
Walkers
We are encouraging runners to enter this year, as a challenge rather than a race. Walkers start 1hr 30 before the runners at 7.30am.
Who is it for?
This event will appeal to runners and walkers with a sense of curiosity and adventure, who are looking for a scenic and runnable way to cross Dartmoor at any time of year. It's also ideal for the first time ultra runner and those of you who want to do a Dartmoor Crossing with excellent. support, safety crews, loads of refreshments on route with two Checkpoints (Ultra) this year and 24/7 monitoring.
Entrants need to be 20 at least to enter the Ultra, unless they do it as a challenge (walk), in which case younger entrants can do it with a guardian or parent.
This is a challenging self navigation ultra, crossing Dartmoor National Park, with minimal ascent. At the 8 mile split at Checkpoint 1 near Yardworthy farm (also the first feed station) you must take the western split, where the Two Moors Way splits in two and rejoins at the top car park above Widecombe (at the far end of Hameldown ridge) Checkpoint 2 (not in Widecombe itself) and Checkpoint 3 at Scorriton village hall car park.
There will be 3 checkpoints at Yardworthy Farm and Hameldown Ridge (on the road mini car park above Widecombe (mile 17) and at Scorriton Village Hall car park, feed station at (mile 26). Refreshments will be available at both checkpoints 1, 2 and 3 although only water will be available at CP1.
Runners and walkers have until 4.30pm to get to Scorriton Village Hall car park, which should get you to the finish inside 12 hours.
