This is quite a special swim, one of the most beautiful estuary swims in the UK. The swim takes you around Aberdovey Wharf and Jetty, on past the picturesque village and Penhelig corner. You will then carry on past the Roman Road, Picnic Island and The Outward Bound Trust up to a big yellow house, and to what looks like a small castle (Trefri) on an island. This "castle" will be the turnaround point. Expect slight tidal assistance at the start & finish, and perhaps a little swimming against the tide at the turnaround point.
It's a beach start by the yellow star on the left, following the north side of the estuary you will pass Penhelig corner, Picnic Island and reach Trefri where the "castle" stands proud (big yellow house is good for sighting). Here you turn and head back to Aberdovey...
It is likely that you will be swimming against a small amount of tidal flow around the middle part of the swim, so be prepared to slog it out, this will only last a few minutes until the tide is back on your side! Expect water temperature to be around 16 degrees Celsius.
