DERBY TRIATHLON is aimed at all levels of fitness and ability, whether it’s your first triathlon or you are the next Olympic hopeful. Last year we had an increase in first time competitors, with 55% of the field being new to the great fun sport of triathlon.
You can enter as an individual and complete all three disciplines on your own, the relay event with friends or colleagues and enjoy the race as a team or the corporate event where each team member completes the full triathlon.

Transition
There will be a significant amount of racking race numbered with athletes racking in your designated area. There will be a separate bag drop area and athletes will not be allowed to enter Transition without first registering and having their cycle & helmet checked by the PMA crew.
Swim (400M)
The swim will take place in Etwall Leisure centre, which is a modern 6 lane 25M swimming pool. Each swimmer will be set off according to estimated swim times on a time trial basis. Swimmers will start in the water in the shallow end and exit out of the fire exit and run to the back field where the Transition area is located.
Bike Course (18K)
After leaving transition you will exit the Leisure centre from the overflow car park and turn left onto Main Road through the village of Etwall and then take the 2nd exit over the large Island (Seven Wells pub) onto Heage Lane (note that this island is also used towards the end of the course so don’t follow other cyclists onto the Etwall bypass). Once onto Heage Lane you will be cycling onto quiet country lane through the villages of Sutton on the Hill and to Hilton. At Hilton turn left onto the main A5132, which continues over some large islands and then onto the Etwall bypass. At the Seven Wells island take the 4th exit and retrace your steps back along the Etwall bypass and exit back onto Main Street into Etwall before turning back into the Leisure centre.

Run Course (5K)
The 5K out and back run course will head out over the back of the school fields (beware of the steep bank!) and then onto the road for a short section through Etwall before turning off onto Sutton Lane and onto the disused railway path, which is the flat and fast section before retracing your steps. There is a feedstation at 1K & 4K to ensure you are fully hydrated.

The relay triathlon

I have been organising multi-sport events for the past 21 years originally with Derby Triathlon Club. I have organised in excess of 100 Triathlon events ranging from one of the biggest pool based Triathlons in the East Midlands region to National qualification races, National Championships to an International Duathlon (Powerman).
I still have deep connections with Derby Triathlon Club where I am a Life Member and continue to race at a competitive level with ‘Tri Camp TFN RT’ team with British National Titles and a top 10 finish at a World Championship event.
I race at all distances from Sprint based pool events through to Ironman events I enjoyed racing overseas at my preferred Middle Distance events with Mallorca 70.3 and Alpe D’huez Long Course Triathlon in 2013 (I have concluded that I can still be competitive at this distance on a limited time budget!) This year I took part in the Mont Blanc Triathlon, which had beautiful scenery and we were extremely lucky with the weather too!
My two young children have now caught the bug and have enjoyed the thrill of racing and are becoming more experienced as they take part in each race. We have formed a junior triathlon racing team and they love racing with all their friends, in the UK and abroad!. They are both involved in a number of the local clubs and are great support during the organised races.

I am very lucky that I have a strong support network of marshalls in my wife (Jo), family and friends and I am always grateful for their continuing support and loyalty over the years and with whom the races wouldn’t be able to take place!! We are all part of the PMA Family!
