The Bay of Islands is iconic: famous for its white-sand beaches, pristine islands, lagoons and turquoise waters. It's an area rich in wildlife, known for its beauty and history. These courses follow the classic island-hopping swimrun format over the Bay's stunning islands, before the grand finish at the Otehei Bay island resort.


BRECA BAY OF ISLANDS

Date: 5th April 2020 | Run: 24.7km | Swim: 8.5km | Total: 33.2km


Estimated completion time: 6-11 hours

Terrain: sections of technical, off-trail running; rock-hopping; island crossings; steps; steep slopes

Swimming: technical transitions, ocean swims, high likelihood of swell

Difficulty: hard. To complete this race you need a high level of fitness and should be comfortable swimming in the ocean


BRECA BAY OF ISLANDS SPRINT

Date: 4th April 2020 | Run: 9.5km | Swim: 4.2km | Total: 13.7km


Estimated completion time: 2.5-5 hours

Terrain: sections of technical, off-trail running; rock-hopping; island crossings; steps; steep slopes

Swimming: technical transitions, ocean swims, high likelihood of swell

Difficulty: medium. To complete this race you need a medium-to-high level of fitness and should be comfortable swimming in the ocean


ENTRY

Swimrun is raced in pairs - entry is for teams of two only


Breca Wanaka: $360-390 per person

Breca Wanaka Sprint: $240-260 per person


The entry fee includes:

  • swim cap

MANDATORY KIT

Each team must have:

  • Either two wetsuits or two sets of neoprene shorts and vests
  • Two whistles
  • Two reusable cups or flasks - any kind will be accepted, as long as they are genuinely reusable
  • Teams may also use tow ropes, paddles, pull buoys and fins (no longer than 15cm, measured from the toe), but they are not mandatory.
